Walt Disney World: How We Do Animal Kingdom

My favorite thing about Animal Kingdom is how different it feels from the other three parks. It’s a perfect cross between a zoo (I really love zoos) and a theme park. There’s a lot to love about Animal Kingdom. Some of my favorites rides, shows and snacks are at this park! Disney has made a lot of changes here lately by adding Pandora and having the park open at night, so it’s really a full day park now and not a “half-day” like most people used to think. Make sure you give yourself enough time to fully enjoy this park! It’s worth it.

Our top three favorite rides in Animal Kingdom that you should not miss are Expedition Everest, Kilimanjaro Safaris and Avatar Flight of Passage. Expedition Everest is a really great roller coaster and it’s a lot of fun! It goes backwards, you get to see the Yeti, and it’s a really long ride so it’s definitely worth a FastPass! Kilimanjaro Safaris is amazing because you always have a different experience each time. You never know what animals will be out and we have had some really cool encounters! I also love this ride because animals are really special to me and Disney does such a good job of sharing the importance of conservation and what they are doing to help animals on this ride. Pro tip! Ride the safari during the day AND at night. All the animals are more active at night and it’s a totally difference experience! Flight of Passage is THE most incredible ride I’ve ever been on. I legit almost cried it was so beautiful. I say if you have the time, it is most definitely worth a 2 hour wait.

My number one favorite thing to do in Animal Kingdom is watch The Festival of The Lion King show. It’s probably my favorite show in all of Walt Disney World. This may have something to do with the fact that The Lion King is my favorite Disney movie, but regardless it is a beautiful show with beautiful music and it makes me cry okay so go watch it! Animal Kingdom has a lot of other shows that are really cool like Finding Nemo: The Musical and Rivers of Light, their relatively new night show. Speaking of night shows, make sure you stop and watch the Tree of Life Awakenings on your way out of the park. It happens every 15 minutes between 6pm and 8pm!

You know we love finding good food (hence us starting Let’s Find Food) and Animal Kingdom has plenty to offer! Some of my favorites include the chicken fried rice and mango pie from the Yak and Yeti quick service restaurant, the baked macaroni and cheese with pulled pork from Flame Tree Barbecue, and the Night Blossom drink and Pongu Lumpia (pineapple cream cheese spring roll) from Pongu Pongu in Pandora. If you want to do a sit down restaurant, I really like Tusker House. The jungle juice there is my favorite and I wish it was available everywhere in Animal Kingdom!

I think that Animal Kingdom is a park best enjoyed by taking it slow. If you rush through you will miss a lot of the unique details and fun areas! Even if you don’t necessarily like the movie Avatar, you need to explore Pandora. The theming is so beautiful and there are a lot of excellent photo opportunities! I also love to watch everyone dancing at the multiple dance parties around the park. There’s nothing like watching people truly enjoying their vacation and having fun!

As always, this is just how we like to do Animal Kingdom. Feel free to follow our advice, but do your own thing too! And as the cast members at Animal Kingdom always say, “Have a wild time!”
